    De Fokker G-1 jachtkruiser, was een aanvalsjager die in 1934 werd ontworpen door ir. Marius Beeling en dr. Erich Schatzki. Het idee achter het ontwerp was een combinatie van een lange afstands jager, verkenner en lichte bommenwerper. Een denkbeeld dat ook in het buitenland leefde en aanleiding was voor diverse nieuwe vliegtuigontwerpen. Dit ontwerp was met name bijzonder door het gebruik van dubbele staartbomen, het kenmerk van deze jachtkruiser. De G-1 jachtkruiser werd in 1936 bij zijn presentatie op de 15e Luchtvaartsalon in Parijs een regelrechte sensatie. Het toestel kreeg meteen de bijnaam Le Faucheur (De Maaier) door zijn geduchte bewapening. Deze bestond aanvankelijk uit twee kanonnen en twee mitrailleurs (later vier of acht mitrailleurs), bovendien kon het toestel ook nog 400 kilo aan bommen meevoeren.     In 1935 werd duidelijk dat de Nederlandse Luchtvaart-afdeling (LVA) nodig gemoderniseerd moest worden. Nieuwe plannen behelsden onder andere twee vliegtuigafdelingen met jachtkruisers met een aanzienlijk vliegbereik voor patrouilletaken. De Fokker G-1 werd beschouwd als het ideale type voor deze taak en 36 toestellen werden besteld. Ze werden in 1939 geleverd. Op 1 september 1939 werd de 4e JaVA op Bergen opgericht en als eerste uitgerust met G-1's. Deze patrouilleerde boven het noorden van het land en onderschepte heel wat buitenlandse (Duitse) vliegtuigen. Na het november-alarm werd de 3e JaVA, uitgerust met de G-1, gestationeerd op Waalhaven bij Rotterdam en patrouilleerde boven het zuiden van het land. In 1939 werden 26 voor Spanje bedoelde G-1 Wasp's door Nederland overgenomen.
