    Er is veel gedocumenteerd over de baanbrekende muziek die in de jaren '60 en '70 uit de Verenigde Staten kwam, te midden van de sociale en politieke strijd van die tijd. Maar de scène ging niet alleen over de Summer of Love of Woodstock. Er vond een andere beweging plaats in de Latijns-Amerikaanse wijken van New York City, toen de culturele barrières losser werden. Vanaf het midden van de jaren '60 vulden muzikanten de clubs met een onweerstaanbare combinatie van soul, R&B en Afro-Cubaanse dansritmes.
